Baseball scoreboard: Buford holds on against Collins Hill; NoFo wins Region 8-6A; NHall topples EHall; Jax Co. falls to Lanier

BUFORD, Ga. — The Buford baseball team held off a late-game charge to beat Collins Hill 7-5 on Wednesday at Gerald McQuaig Field. 

In Region 8-7A, Buford (14-12, 9-4 Region 8-7A) and Dacula (18-8, 9-4 Region 8-7A) remain in a first-place tie after wins on Wednesday. Dacula knocked off Central Gwinnett. 

After a scoreless first inning, the Wolves reeled off six runs over the next three innings for a 6-0 lead after the fourth. 

Cannon Goldin, Nate Taylor and Ayden Lockett all drove in runs in the Wolves' three-run fourth inning. 

Davis Church picked up the win for the Wolves, surrendering four runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings. Garrett Posey earned the save, recording the last seven outs to preserve the win. 

Taylor was 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Wolves. Brandon Taliaferro and Goldin were 2-for-4. 


NORTH HALL 10, 
EAST HALL 0

Campbell Payton and Josh Niles combined for a one-hit shutout against East Hall on Wednesday at Cottrell Field. 

The Trojans (16-9, 8-8 Region 8-4A) scored three runs in the first, third and fourth and added one more in the fifth to run-rule the Vikings. 

Charlie Wright was 2-for-2 with four RBIs, and Korbyn Sosebee was 3-for-3 with three RBIs. 

The Trojans and Vikings (4-19, 1-15 Region 8-4A) will play Game 3 tomorrow at East Hall. 


NORTH FORSYTH 10, 
GAINESVILLE 3

On Wednesday, the Raiders clinched the Region 8-6A title with a seven-run win over Gainesville at home. 

NoFo (18-9, 13-2 Region 8-6A)  will be the No. 1 seed in the Class 7A tournament set to begin later this month. 

After Gainesville grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an error, North Forsyth clicked off six straight runs over the next two innings to take a 6-1 advantage. 

Jordan Cox and Ellis Alldredge drove in runs in the second inning, and Kaleb Duckwall, Brady Holbrook and Billy Mason all drove in runs in the third to take control of the game. 
Gainesville added a run in the fifth and sixth, while the Raiders tacked on two in the fifth and two in the sixth. 

Holbrook was 3-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Raiders. Mason and Duckwall also drove in two runs. 


LANIER 2, 
JACKSON COUNTY 1

David Bomberger ripped a walk-off single on the first pitch of his at-bat to score the game-winning run in a huge Region 8-6A win over Jackson County. 

The win kept the Longhorns (17-8, 10-6 Region 8-6A) tied for second with Apalachee, who shutout Shiloh on Wednesday. 

Jackson County (12-15, 9-6 Region 8-6A) droves a half-game behind Apalachee and Lanier in fourth place. 

Lanier took the lead in the third inning and held it until Jackson County tied it up in the fifth inning on an error.
