On Monday, North Hall knocked off No. 1 Cherokee Bluff to suddenly throw some drama into what had become a predictable Region 8-4A North race. The two teams will resume their three-game series on Wednesday at Cottrell Field.
Before Monday's upset loss, Bluff (20-1, 6-1 Region 8-4A North) led Class 4A in runs scored and was riding a program-best 20-game win streak. The Trojans (14-7, 4-3 Region 8-4A North) were mired in fourth place in the subregion and looking like anything but a playoff team. Now, North Hall has a shot to get within one game of first place if they can do it again at home.
In Region 8-6A, North Forsyth (17-6, 12-0 Region 8-6A) can clinch the region title with another win over and Lanier (15-7, 8-5 Region 8-6A) at home on Wednesday. The real battle continues to be for second, third, and fourth. Jackson County (10-14, 7-5 Region 8-6A) sits in third one-half game behind Lanier while Habersham Central (12-10, 6-6 Region 8-6A) is tied for fourth with Apalachee (10-12, 6-6 Region 8-6A). Habersam Central plays host to Apalachee on Wednesday. Jackson County heads to Shiloh (4-16, 0-13 Region 8-6A), which has lost 15 straight.
