Georgia gas prices hold steady for second straight week

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

For the second week in a row, gas prices remained unchanged on average across Georgia.

According to Monday morning's report from AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular is $3.22, which is the same as the last two weeks. Prices, however, are 9 cents higher than this time last month.

Georgia continues to perform better at the pump than most other states, however, with the national average rising to $3.50 per gallon over the past week. AAA Spokeswoman Montrae Waiters said high demand around the spring travel season has been the main cause.

“Oil prices finally crested and have now settled above the $70 per barrel mark after weeks of hovering just below it,” Waiters said. “Nationally, gas demand is very robust. These two factors have caused drivers to see prices increase in certain states for now.”

Locally, prices stayed below the state average. The average price per gallon in Hall, Gwinnett, Forsyth and Jackson counties was $3.14 as of Monday's report. The lowest prices in Northeast Georgia are in Hart County at an average of $3.11 per gallon.

The cheapest average prices in the state are in Chattooga County in Northwest Georgia at $3.09 per gallon while the most expensive are in Clay County in Southwest Georgia at $3.50 per gallon.
