GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Chestatee evened its ultra-important Region 8-4A North series with rival North Hall with a tough 4-2 victory at the Lynn Cottrell Complex on Wednesday.
The win moved the War Eagles (11-10, 4-4 Region 8-4A North) back into third place, leap-frogging over North Hall (12-7, 2-3 Region 8-4A North) in the subregion standings. The two teams will close out their series on Friday at Cottrell Field at North Hall.
Nick McKoy's sacrifice fly scoring Josh Bull in the fifth broke a 2-2 tie and Jake Hitchcock tripled in Wesley Gossett in the sixth for an insurance run.
Thomas Martens then closed out the game, getting a double play in the seventh to end it after the Trojans had gotten a pair of one-out singles to put the go-ahead run on base. Brock Moody got the win for Chestatee scattering four hits and allowing two runs in five innings.
Mills Lothridge took the loss for North Hall, surrendering four runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings, striking out three. Micah Jimerson pitched the final two-thirds of an inning out of the bullpen for the Trojans.
Hitchcock, McKoy, Ethan Andrews, and Bull all had two hits for Chestatee. Colton Wilbanks smacked a first inning home run for the War Eagles.
Ajay Jones had two hits for North Hall. Lothridge and Luke Sanders each had one RBI for the Trojans.
