Baseball scoreboard: Dawson Co. picks up huge region win over Lumpkin; Banks, Towns, Commerce get region wins; White Co. falls to Wesleyan

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. — Trey Harvey answered the call for Dawson County on Tuesday in a huge Region 7-3A battle against rival Lumpkin County at home. 

The junior hurler allowed one run on four hits while fanning 10 Indians in seven innings of work to help lead the Tigers past Lumpkin County 4-1 in Game 1 of the three-game series this week. The win shaved one game off the Indians' (15-3, 8-2) lead for the No. 2 spot in the region standings. The Tigers remain one game behind the Indians in third place. 

The Tigers (11-7, 7-3) took the lead in the second innings off a Joshua Priest two-out single that scored Davis Glass, who opened the inning with a walk. Dawson County added insurance in the fifth inning with Colton Rucker, Glass and Odom driving in runs for a 4-1 lead. 

Harper Davenport scored the Indians' only run in the sixth inning off a Dawson County error. 

Jacson Rickett led the Tigers at the plate, going 3-for-4, while Narvaez led the Indians with a 2-for-3 day at the plate. 

The two region rivals will play again on Wednesday in Dahlonega. 


BANKS COUNTY 17,
EAST JACKSON 2

After taking a 7-2 lead in the third inning, the Leopards scored seven more runs in the fourth inning. Caine Griffth, Colin Caudell, Gavin Sears, Aucy Jacobs and Cam Davis all drove in runs in the inning. 

Blake Holcomb earned the win for the Leopards, allowing four hits, no runs and one strikeout in three innings of work. 

Sears was 2-for-3 with four RBIs to lead the Leopards, and Holcomb finished the day 2-for-3. 

Banks County (10-8, 5-2) is tied with Providence Christian for second place in the Region 8-2A standings. 


WESLEYAN 7,
WHITE COUNTY 1

Wesleyan slowly build its lead over the seven-inning Region 7-3A contest to get the win over White County at home on Tuesday. 

The Wolves scored one run in the second, three in the third, and one each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to secure the win. 

Kyler Mayo, Devin Norton, Alex Freeman, Ryan Fowler and Mason Gee had one hit each for the Warriors. 

White County scored its lone run in the top of the sixth inning. 

Forrest Lietz was 2-for-3 with five RBIs, including a three-run homer in the third inning to lead the Wolves offense. 


COMMERCE 5,
RABUN COUNTY 1

The Tigers grabbed the lead in the third inning and never looked back en route to the Region 8-A D1 win at home on Tuesday. 

On a balk, Rabun County struck first in the top of the third inning. 

Commerce answered in the bottom of the third, highlighted by a two-run homer from Hampton Hutto, giving the Tigers a 3-1 advantage. Commerce added two more runs in the fifth. 

Jaxon Foster picked up the win on the mound, allowing one run on four hits while striking out six in 6 2/3 innings. 

With the win, Commerce (8-9, 5-2) remains one game behind Elbert County in third place. 


TOWNS COUNTY 10,
LAKE OCONEE ACADEMY 1

Towns County helped their Region 8-A Division 2 standings with a massive win over Lake Oconee Academy at home on Tuesday. 

The Indians (7-9, 5-5) are now just one game out of third place. 

Towns County started the scoring early, going up 2-0 after the first inning, and added one run in the third and four in the fourth inning to blow open the game, 7-0. They would tack on three more runs in the sixth inning. 

K McConnell picked up the win, allowing one run on six hits while striking out four in seven innings of work. 

Connor Chastain was 3-for-4 with four RBIs to lead the Indians. Seth Gillis, Stone Chauncey and Kade McConnell added two hits each.
