Georgia gas prices hold steady over past week

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Gas prices in Georgia held steady over the last week after several weeks of fluctuation.

The average price for a gallon of regular in the state is $3.22 per gallon according to Monday morning's report from AAA. That's the same as the state average the previous Monday.

Overall, the number is up seven cents from the week before but 74 cents lower than this time last year. AAA Spokeswoman Montrae Waiters said a busy spring travel season have helped keep prices high.

“We may be seeing a return to seasonal trends in demand with warmer weather and longer days, however, fears of a recession caused global oil prices to hover near $70 a barrel, which took the edge off of rising gas prices," Waiters said.

Locally, prices continued to trend lower than the state average. The average price per gallon in both Hall and Jackson counties was $3.17.

The cheapest prices in Northeast Georgia as of Monday's report were in Towns County at an average of $3.14 while the most expensive were in Banks County at $3.26.

There was a tie for most expensive average prices in the state between Hancock County in Middle Georgia and Clay County in Southwest Georgia, both averaging $3.49 per gallon. The cheapest prices in the state were in Quitman County, also in Southwest Georgia, at an average of $3.05 per gallon.
