Baseball scoreboard: Chestatee, East Forsyth, GHS, LCA, Jefferson, North Forsyth pick up wins

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Chestatee scored three runs across the fourth and fifth innings and held on to beat Cedar Shoals 3-0 at the Lynn Cottrell Complex on Monday. 

Colton Wilbanks' double in the bottom of the fourth inning drove home Dylan Thompson, who singled earlier, to give the War Eagles (6-5, 2-1) a 1-0 lead. In the fifth, Eli Chaffin scored on a Nick McKoy ground out, and C Miller scored on a passed ball to push the lead 3-0. 

Thompson, Wilbanks and Jake Hitchcock all recorded hits for the War Eagles. 

Thompson earned the win, allowing zero runs on one hit through five innings of work. He recorded seven strikeouts. Chaffin closed the game, allowing one hit, zero runs, and one strikeout over two innings of work.

The Dragons (7-3) knocked off Jackson County at home on Monday. 


EAST FORSYTH 9,
MADISON CO. 3

After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the second inning, the Broncos (6-4, 2-1) outscored Madison County 9-0 en route to the Region 8-4A cross-over win on Monday at home. 

East Forsyth grabbed the lead in the second, scoring five runs, all on a single by Chace Hall, a sacrifice fly by Trey Farr, and a double from Will Moffit. 

Moffit was 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Broncos at the plate. Mathew Lyons also had two RBIs. 

Wyatt Barden earned the victory on the mound for the Broncos, going 5 2/3 innings, allowing four three runs on four hits while striking out eight. 


NORTH FORSYTH 5,
APALACHEE 0

Andrew Elkhill was tough to hit as the Raiders (5-5, 1-0) rolled to the Region 8-6A win over Apalachee at Raider Field on Monday. 

Elkhill pitched five scoreless innings allowing just two hits while striking out 12 Wildcats. 

Jake Prince highlighted NoFo's offense with a three-run homer in the fourth inning to give the Raiders a 3-0 lead. Prince was 2-for-4 with three RBIs on the day. Mason Glennon was 2-for-3 with one RBI. 


GAINESVILLE 6,
HABERSHAM CENTRAL 5

Gainesville scored three runs in the top of the seventh to rally for the win over Habersham Central on Monday in its Region 8-6A opener on the road.

Gainesville led 2-0 with a pair of quick runs in the first, but the Raiders (7-4, 1-1 Region 8-6A) chipped away with a run in the third and took a 4-3 lead in the fifth.

Cooper Reid was a one-man gang collecting three hits, including a home run and two RBI, and got the win on the mound. Reid went six innings for the Red Elephants while Branson Crawford got the save, throwing a perfect seventh inning.

Smith McGarvey and Phillip Williams each had two hits for Gainesville (7-4, 1-0 Region 8-6A), which has won five straight.

Mason Dawe had two hits and an RBI, while Kaleb Chastain had a hit and two RBI for Habersham Central.

Konner Burrell went five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits for the Raiders.

The two teams will meet again on Wednesday at Ivey-Watson Field.


LANIER CHRISTIAN 14,
COVINGTON ACADEMY 0

LCA improved to 2-1 on the season with a road win on Monday.

Camden Hohman picked up the win, striking out five and giving up no hits, while Tres Criste pitched the final inning, giving up 1 hit and striking out two batters.

The Lightning scored three runs in the top of the first and never looked back, scoring runs in every inning.

Isaac Dinn, Gavin Strabala, and Hohman led the hitting with two hits each.  Dinn drove in four runs and Strabala three for the Lightning. Carter Raulerson scored four times, and Quinn Winfrey scored three runs for LCA.
