Baseball: Falcons begin Florida road trip in style; Bluff routs Gilmer

BRANFORD, Fla. — Flowery Branch began a weekend Florida road trip with an impressive 11-6 win over Branford (Fla.) on Thursday.

The Falcons (5-1) exploded for six runs in the first, highlighted by a two-run home run from Mason Compton and a two-run double from Austin Bourrie. All six runs came after two were out in the inning.

Branch added two runs in the second on a RBI double from Compton and a RBI single from Aaron Attaway for a quick 8-0 lead. Branford (0-1) scored five in the third and one in the fourth but the Falcons added single runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh to pull away for the victory.

Chase Hammock started and got the win going two innings scattering two hits and fanning four.

Javy Ojeda finished with two hits for Branch.

The road trip continues for the Falcons as they take on Buchholz out of Gainesville (Fla.) on Friday.

The Bears (5-0) remained unbeaten as Brady Stephens, Ben Crumpton, and Landon Kemp combined on a one-hitter.

Brett House sparked the offense with two hits and 5 RBI, including a three-run home in the fifth to clinch the run-rule win. Garrett Harper had two hits and two RBI, Jacob Vokal had two hits and an RBI, and Ty Corbin had three hits for the Bears.

Bluff scored twice in the first and blew it open with a six-run second inning. The Bears added two more in the third and sealed it with three in the fifth.

Gilmer (2-3) got its only run in the fourth.

The Bears next will play host to White County on Friday.
