By AccessWDUN Staff

A Fort Stewart soldier died Tuesday, Feb. 7, after he faced a medical emergency during a flight to a combat training facility in California.

Private First Class Kaleb H. Franklin was onboard a flight with other soldiers when a medical emergency forced the aircraft to make an emergency landing in Amarillo, Texas.

Fort Stewart officials told FOX 5 the unit's medical personnel performed CPR on the soldier as the plane made its emergency landing. Franklin, 26, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Franklin served nearly three years of active-duty service and was assigned to the 9th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd ID. He was also the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.

Franklin's cause of death is under investigation.
