Gwinnett private school debuts Esports center

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

A private school in Gwinnett County has debuted a new Esports center for its middle and high school students.

Hebron Christian Academy in Dacula announced the new center in a release Friday, saying the center was converted from an existing computer lab on the campus. School officials said the center was built amid growing interest in competitive gaming from students.

Esports is now an activity sanctioned by the Georgia High School Association, which Hebron Christian Academy is a member of. The school has seen competitive success in Esports, with one student, Jake Redman, recently reaching the GHSA's Elite 8 in Madden 23 and now playing competitively at Kennesaw State University.

Director of Technology and Esports Coach at the school, Dr. Patrick Mulvehill, said he's excited about the new facility.

"By converting a traditional computer lab into a cutting-edge Esports center, we are not only meeting the academic interests of our students, but also preparing them for the evolving landscape of competitive gaming," Dr. Mulvehill said.

Hebron Christian Academy offers Esports programs for a number of games including Rocket League, Madden, NBA2K, Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon 3, and League of Legends.
