Authorities investigating cause of Habersham County house fire

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in northern Habersham County Saturday.

Rob Moore with Habersham County Public Information said crews were dispatched to the home on Georgia 255 between Batesville and Sautee-Nacoochee around 2:30 a.m. Saturday. The home was already engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

The lone resident of the home and his cat were able to escape without injury. Fire crews from both Habersham and White counties fought the blaze, shuttling water and bringing in tankers due to a lack of hydrants in the area.

Investigators were scheduled to visit the site Monday afternoon to attempt to determine the cause of the fire.
