The Georgia High School Association released proposed classifications for the 2024-26 athletic seasons on Wednesday.

The schools will now have an opportunity to appeal their enrollment figure or request to play in a high classification.

Last year, the GHSA eliminated Class 7A, leaving Class 6A with 65 of the state's largest schools.

Class 2A through Class 5A has 57-59 schools in them. Class A Division 1 has 84 schools, with 68 playing football, and Class A Division 2 has 76 schools, with 50 playing football.

As for what regions will look like, that process will begin after the appeals window is closed.

In the AccessWDUN coverage area, North Forsyth will stay in Class 6A and likely join South Forsyth, Denmark, Forsyth Central, West Forsyth and Lambert in a region.

Also in Class 6A will be Buford.

Flowery Branch and East Forsyth will be in Class 4A.

Gainesville, Habersham Central and Jackson County are in Class 5A.

North Hall, East Hall, Chestatee, Johnson, Cherokee Bluff and West Hall are all in Class 3A.

Also staying in Class 3A are White County, Lumpkin County and Dawson County. Those three mountain schools could join the Hall County schools to form a Northeast Georgia region in Class 3A.

Jefferson dropped from Class 5A to Class 3A.

Union County and East Jackson stay in Class 2A.

Banks County dropped from Class 2A to Class A Division 1 along with Rabun County and Commerce, and Towns County stayed in Class A Division 2.
