The Buford-Mill Creek game did not disappoint unless you were watching on ESPN2, and the final 20 seconds of the game turned into some quality preseason NBA action. Nevertheless, Mill Creek held off Buford on the final drive to avenge last season's loss and take the Region 8-7A lead. Unless something crazy happens, the Hawks will be a No. 1 seed in next month's state playoffs.
Elbert County held Rabun County to just nine points in the win over the Wildcats Friday night. It was the first region loss in a decade for Rabun County. Region 8-A Division 1 could get very interesting as Commerce plays Elbert County this week and has Rabun County next week.

Jackson County at Lanier –. Jackson County needs to win this game to strengthen its playoff chances. If Lanier wins, the Panthers will be teetering on the brink of playoff elimination with an impending home game in Week 12 against No. 1 Gainesville. So, needless to say, Friday night is a huge game for Jackson County. It's also a massive game for Lanier. The Longhorns need a win to stay in second and in the driver's seat for a first-round home playoff game. Region 8-6A could get messy down the stretch with several interesting games. However, Gainesville holds the key to the region championship, making the battle for 2-4 even more interesting. If you're looking for a good game, put a checkmark beside this one. East Forsyth at Madison County – Just as we projected, Region 8-4A is getting messy, and we love it. The drama of the season's final three weeks is better than an episode of Young and the Restless. Yes, I referenced a network TV soap opera I watched with my great-grandmother as a kid. Anyway, Madison County blew it against a struggling Cedar Shoals last week -- a loss that no one saw coming. And to be honest, that doesn't bode well for East Forsyth. On top of the almost two-hour trip to Danielsville, the Broncos will play in a hostile environment against a ticked-off bunch of Red Raiders. Needless to say, I will say it anyway: this is a massive game for both programs. Madison County needs the win to keep its now bubble chances of a home playoff game, and East Forsyth needs the win to keep its home playoff chances alive. Either way, start humming that Young and the Restless theme song because this one will be filled with drama and, hopefully, a dang good finish. Shiloh at Gainesville – There's not much to say about this matchup. Shiloh is giving up almost 40 points per game and only scoring 14.
