A Flowery Branch man faces multiple charges after being involved in a weekend hit-and-run incident and subsequent vehicle chase on I-85 in Franklin County.
Allen Gale Nichols, 47, faces charges including felony fleeing and driving under the influence of methamphetamine after being taken into custody Sunday afternoon.
The Georgia State Patrol [GSP] said troopers were initially called to an area on I-85 Northbound in response to a hit-and-run-related "Be On the Lookout" - or "BOLO" - call that originated not far from the South Carolina line.
"A Trooper located the vehicle, a black 2022 Chevrolet Spark, traveling northbound on Interstate 85, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop," the GSP said. "The driver of the Chevrolet initiated a vehicle pursuit and the aforementioned Trooper performed a successful PIT maneuver, which forced both vehicles into the grass median."
Nichols was apparently able to regain control of his vehicle, and continued on a northbound trajectory while still driving in the median. He then struck a cable barrier two times before attempting to enter the southbound lanes of the interstate.
"In an effort to terminate the pursuit, the Trooper used the front of his patrol vehicle to strike the passenger’s side of the Chevrolet," the GSP said. "After impact, the driver of the Chevrolet attempted to reverse and the Trooper used the front of his patrol vehicle to strike the front of the Chevrolet."
Nichols was then taken into custody without any further incident.
No injuries were reported.
