Gas prices still rising in Georgia as January ends

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Gas prices continued to rise in Georgia in the final full week of January.

The average price for a gallon of regular rose to $3.39 as of early Monday morning according to the latest report from AAA. That was a 14-cent increase from the week before and represents three straight weeks of rising prices.

AAA Spokeswoman Montrae Waiters said the trend may continue into the coming weeks as well.

“The rise in crude oil prices continues to be the major culprit for higher pump prices nationwide. Unfortunately, we cannot predict how high gas prices will rise this week," Waiters said.

Georgia prices continue to trend lower than the national average, which is now up to $3.50 per gallon. Prices in Northeast Georgia, meanwhile, are continuing to trend lower than the state average, with Hall County averaging $3.36 per gallon. Towns County has the cheapest prices in the region with an average price of $3.27.

The most expensive prices in the region as of Monday morning were in Dawson County at an average of $3.41 per gallon.
