Two men from Duluth have been charged with murder after they allegedly assaulted a man in December, leading to his eventual death from injuries suffered in that incident.

According to a press release from the Gwinnett County Police Department, Bryan Alvarado, 21, and Yeison Alvarado, 23, have been charged for the death of Raul Diaz-Villalba, 52, of Atlanta.

Gwinnett County Police Officers responded on Dec. 20, 2022, to a reported assault where a man was bleeding and unconscious. Arriving officers found Diaz-Villalba with multiple lacerations, discoloration, a swollen face and wounds all over his head. Diaz-Villalba was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries.

Detectives were notified on Jan. 14 that Diaz-Villalba had died. The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's Office then concluded on Jan. 17 that his death was a result of the injuries inflicted on his head during the attack on Dec. 20.

Detectives learned during the investigation that the suspects and the victim got into a physical altercation over money.

The suspects were charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, robbery and false imprisonment.
