The White County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday night that it is investigating a threat made against the county's school system.
In a social media post, the sheriff's office said it is being assisted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in the case. The post also said residents should expect heavier law enforcement presence at county schools until further notice.
Scott Justus, assistant superintendent with the White County School System, said a group of students reported seeing a TikTok video of someone threatening White County Middle School. No other schools were involved.
"We at White County School System take the safety of our students, staff, and community very seriously," Justus said in a statement. "So, we asked our Law Enforcement partners to investigate the rumor and add extra presence at our schools."
Justus said school operations are continuing as usual.
"We ask our parents, staff, and students to trust we are doing all things for the continued safety of all involved with the White County School System as we do every day," Justus said.
Anyone with information on the threat is asked to contact the sheriff's office by calling 706-865-5177.
