A vacant home in Lawrenceville caught on fire early Sunday morning and forced one person to be hospitalized.
Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the burning home at 2:59 a.m., near the Sterling Hill Drive NW and Towler Road NW intersection.
The 911 caller reported that there were no cars in the driveway and that the fire was spreading to the woods.
Firefighters arrived at the single-family home at 3:04 a.m. and discovered that the fire was coming from the crawlspace.
While performing their walk-around, crews found a homeless person who was lying on the ground and complaining of smoke inhalation. Medical crews assessed the patient and sent him to Northside Hospital Gwinnett in stable condition.
Firefighters then began suppressive fire efforts by removing plywood from the boarded-up windows. Crews deployed several hoses to extinguish the flames, and they were brought under control by 4:09 a.m. Search crews then confirmed structure vacancy.
Officials eventually determined that the vacant, single-family structure had been turned into a business.
No other injuries were reported, and firefighters could not determine the fire's cause.
