Softball: Jefferson, Buford take region wins

WINDER, Ga. -- Jefferson moved within one game of fourth place in Region 8-5A with an 8-4 win over Winder-Barrow on Tuesday on the road.

It was the second straight win for the Lady Dragons (14-9, 6-6 Region 8-5A) which is their first two-game win streak since Aug. 29.
 
The Lady Bulldoggs jumped on Jefferson starter Taylor Spivey early with three runs on just two hits in the first inning. Addison Self came on in relief and shut down Winder-Barrow allowing just one run on one hit over the final six innings to get the win.

Jefferson chipped away getting two runs in the second, including a solo home run from Maleia Truelove. The Lady Dragons took the lead for good with three runs in the fifth, including a two-run blast from Truelove.

Jefferson increased its lead to 6-3 in the sixth and then held on for the region win.

 The Lady Dragons next will play host to Flowery Branch on Thursday in another region contest.


BUFORD 6,
DACULA 3

Freshman Caroline Stanton continued her rampage at the plate on Tuesday, helping to lead the Lady Wolves to a Region 8-7A win at The Buford Softball Complex.

Stanton belted a pair of solo home runs (her 7th and 8th of the season), and scored twice to pace the offense.

Junior Mackenzie Pickens had a double and knocked in one run. Junior Adriana Martinez had a RBI double as well.

Buford started quickly plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. The Lady Wolves got single runs in the third and fifth sandwiched around a pair runs in the fourth.

Duncan got the win in the circle for Buford, allowing only one earned run, and fanning 10 Dacula

The Lady Wolves (19-0, 10-0 Region 8-7A) hold a four-game lead over second plaec Mill Creek in Region play..

Buford will continue its region schedule on Wednesday, travelling to take on Mountain View.
