When the dust settled last week, four area teams remained undefeated.
Banks County, Gainesville, Lanier Christian and Lumpkin County took care of business in Week 4.
Lumpkin County held off a Temple comeback at The Burial Grounds in a 27-20 win and is now 4-0 for the first time since 1988. Gainesville moved to 4-0 for the first time since 2009 with a solid 43-20 win over Clarke Central at City Park.
Banks County moved to 3-0 on the season with a 43-6 blasting of Franklin County. Lanier Christian is 3-0 after a dominating 62-8 win over Rock Springs Christian.
Both Cherokee Bluff and Chestatee opened Region 8-4A play with two big wins. The Bears rallied to beat Madison County, 20-19, on the road, while Chestatee pulled away from East Hall in the second half for a 44-12 victory at home.
This week's slate only has 14 games, and the Jacobs Media airwaves will be filled with action, including three games, our Conditioned Air Systems Tailgate Show and the Hardy Chevrolet Scoreboard Show.
Chestatee at Cherokee Bluff -- Cherokee Bluff had to rally against Madison County last week to pick up the Region 8-4A opener victory, their first win of the season. The young Bears are still finding their way. The same can be said for Chestatee. The War Eagles took advantage of East Hall's mistakes last week in a 44-12 region opening win. It was the most points scored this year for the War Eagles.
This game has a lot of intrigue. Both squads are giving up 36 points per game. Bluff averages 31 ppg on offense, while the War Eagles average 21.3 ppg. This one has the possibility of which one can hold the other, perhaps one time on defense. Could this be a score fest? You can listen to the game on WDUN AM 550 (Click to listen live)
Lambert at Flowery Branch -- Flowery Branch's offense hasn't been anything to write home about, averaging just 19.7 ppg. The Falcons' highest output was in Week 1 in a 39-38 win over Decatur. Their inability to score reared its ugly head against Stephens County two weeks ago in a 27-11 loss. That could be the case this week against Lambert. The Longhorns are giving up 11 ppg while averaging 39. How much the Falcons' offense has improved during their first off week should show up early in this one. If they have trouble lighting up the scoreboard, the Longhorns could have a field day. You can hear the game on FM 102.9 WDUN (Click to listen live).
North Hall at East Hall -- It's Hall County's oldest rivalry. East Hall leads the series 33-22, but North Hall has won the last 12. In those last 12, the Trojans averaged 52 ppg and won by an average margin of 33 points. It's been an ugly rivalry over the last decade, but that could change on Friday. The Vikings come into the region battle 2-1 but lost to Chestatee, 44-12, in Week 4. North Hall is 0-3. The biggest change in the last 12 seasons for the Trojans is the ability to score at will. East Hall's biggest change is defensively. The Vikings are giving up 23.7 ppg, a vast improvement over the last several seasons. Can the Vikings break the Trojans' 12-game winning streak? The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake (Click to listen live).
