The 2022 Georgia Film Festival will be held on the Gainesville campus of the University of North Georgia this week.
The event is in its sixth year and highlights films made in Georgia or produced by filmmakers based in the state. It will be on Friday and Saturday in the school's Film and Digital Media building.
Director of UNG's School of Communication, Film and Theatre, Dr. Jeff Marker, said he's excited about the event.
"Our mission is to support indie film and emerging filmmakers of all backgrounds. We’re proud to be one of the few festivals in the state whose focus is highlighting homegrown talent, and we get to showcase our own students’ work in the process," Marker said. "It’s a fun celebration of cinematic storytelling for the audience and a vehicle for filmmakers to represent their work.”
One of the films featured will be "10-56", which is directed by Jason Wynn who has taught at the school. Other screenings will include "Blurring the Color Line" and "Halloween to Forget".
Panels and workshops on filmmaking will also be offered including an opportunity for local students to learn about the industry on Saturday. One of the festival's programmers, UNG student Noah Green, said preparing for the event has been a fun experience.
"My team and I worked hard to ensure that the festival is full of strong films that represent the heart of local independent cinema in Georgia. I am proud to have gotten the chance to work with such an awesome group of people on something that is so important to the film and digital media department here at UNG."
