SR 332 bridge over I-85 to reopen Wednesday

By Austin Eller News Director

The State Route 332 bridge over Interstate 85 in Jackson County is set to reopen on Wednesday, weather permitting.

According to a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation, the replacement of the SR 332 bridge was a part of phase two of the I-85 widening. Construction of the replacement began on Jan. 31.

An emergency closure of I-85 in mid-March prompted GDOT to accelerate the replacement of the six mainline bridges. It also allowed an additional 30 days for the construction of the SR 332 overpass

“We are grateful for the community’s patience and flexibility as this bridge was reconstructed,” Georgia DOT Project Manager Albert “Butch” Welch said. “Opening this bridge is another key milestone for the overall project as we continue making strides toward project completion. Georgia DOT will share additional I-85 widening progress in the coming months.”

The I-85 widening, phase two project will feature additional lane capacity, improved mobility for passenger and freight vehicles and will support Georgia's fast-growing economic development. The project will reduce corridor delays by about 69% once complete.

Specifically, phase two of the project will widen I-85 from two lanes to three lanes in both directions from SR 53 to just north of US 129.

More information about the project can be found here.
