GAINESVILLE, Ga. — A come-from-behind effort from Lakeview got their season off on the right foot Friday night as the Lions took down Kings Ridge, 35-28.
Lakeview outscored Kings Ridge 28-7 in the second half after trailing by two touchdowns at halftime.
Kings Ridge jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first 1:05 of the contest, scoring on the opening drive and then taking advantage of a Lakeview fumble on the ensuing kickoff. The Lions answered on the back of a nine-play, 66-yard drive that saw Logan Stanley hook up with TJ Blackwell for 16 yards through the air to cut the lead in half.
After Kings Ridge answered with a 12-play drive that ended in a touchdown to make the score 21-7, Lakeview responded in a big way in the second half, starting with a 14-yard scamper by Clyde Jones with eight minutes to go in the third. The Lions tied the game 2:15 later on an Antonio Cantrell 4-yard run.
Kings Ridge got their fourth rushing touchdown of the night from Chandler DeBlois later in the third period before Cantrell took over in the fourth quarter, scoring from eight yards out midway through the period before the game-winning touchdown from 14 yards away with just 41 seconds left on the clock.
Cantrell finished the day with 90 yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns, while Stanley threw for 191 yards through the air on 19-of-35 passing with a touchdown.
Lakeview will head south next Friday night to battle Athens Christian.
