Young Harris College Named a 2022-2023 College of Distinction

Young Harris College has been named a 2022-2023 College of Distinction and Georgia College of Distinction, for its commitment to helping undergraduate students learn, grow and succeed.  Earning them additional recognition in the areas of Education and Career Development.

Young Harris is a private college located in the mountains of North Georgia.  Colleges of Distinction is a guide used by college-bound students of colleges and universities across the U.S.  Their selection process consists of a sequence of in-depth research and detailed interviews with institutions, only accepting those that fulfill four distinctions:  Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community and Successful Outcomes.

YHC succeeds in demonstrating and cultivating the following:

  • Engaged Students – YHC students have the opportunity to take an active part in their own learning through common intellectual experiences, undergraduate research, diversity, and global learning.
  • Great Teaching – YHC students have meaningful interactions with faculty in writing-intensive courses, collaborative assignments and projects, and the First-Year Experience.
  • Vibrant Community – YHC knows that creating connections with peers outside of the classroom is an important part of a well-rounded college experience. The College offers service and community-based learning as well as access to on-campus and off-campus communities to help students find a sense of belonging and meaning.
  • Successful Outcomes – YHC’s undergraduate experience functions to prepare students not only for graduation, but also for life after graduation. Opportunities for success include internships, group projects, Senior Capstone courses, and much more.

According to a press release by YHC, Wes Creel, the founder of Colleges Distinction, said that they focus on schools that prioritize and cater to students' goals.

"We’re inspired by the ways in which YHC immerses students in their fields, all while fostering a welcoming community that will support them through and beyond their college years,” he said.
