The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia is kicking off two events on Monday: the Food Bowl Fund PLUS fundraiser and the BISSELL Pet Foundation Empty the Shelters campaign.
The Food Bowl Fund PLUS fundraiser, which runs from July 11 through July 17, helps the humane society raise funds to feed all of its rescues for the next year, as well as provide care for its rescues.
"This is a super important campaign for us each year," Sam Threadgill, chief philanthropy officer at the humane society, said. "This year we have an awesome goal of $25,000."
Donations will be matched up to $5,000 by Cottrell, Inc. and Boost Transportation.
Threadgill said they the "PLUS," a couple of years prior, as they aim to raise funds for more than just food for the rescues.
The community can donate to the event online here, or by calling 770-532-6617 ext. 243. Donations can also be mailed directly to HSNEGA at Food Bowl Fund PLUS, 845 West Ridge Road, Gainesville, 30501.
The BISSELL Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters event aims to help reduce overcrowding in shelters and humane societies across the country. The event runs from July 11 through July 31. The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia, Hall County Animal Shelter, Furkids, Inc. and several other area organizations are taking part in the event. A full list can be found here.
During the Empty the Shelter event, pet adoption fees are set to a maximum of $50. Threadgill said for any animal older than one year, dogs will be $50 and cats will be $30.
"The way BISSELL plays their role ... for every animal that's adopted, they make a donation back to the shelter that's participating in it so that that ... we're not losing money as a shelter," Threadgill said.
The adoption fee at the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia covers vaccinations, microchips and the spaying/neutering of the animal.
Threadgill said the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia is a no-kill organization, so they are almost always over capacity. As of Thursday, the humane society had 144 animals in their care, with 116 of those being in the building while 28 were in foster homes.
