A Gainesville man who previously worked as a substitute teacher at East Hall High School was arrested Wednesday on charges related to an illicit relationship with an underage student from the school.
B.J. Williams, public information officer with the Hall County Sheriff's Office, said Christopher Brennen Young, 23, allegedly met the girl while employed at East Hall High School. The girl was under the age of 16. Williams said the investigation began at the end of June.
Stan Lewis, director of community relations with the Hall County School District, said Young worked sporadically as a substitute teacher at the district during the 2021-22 school year. Young no longer works in that capacity.
The investigation found evidence that Young allegedly sexually assaulted the girl and took videos of the sexual activity on his cell phone. The reported assaults did not occur on school property.
"Our hearts go out to the victim and the family," Lewis said. "The district stands ready to provide necessary support."
Young was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery, one count of aggravated sodomy, two counts of aggravated child molestation and six counts of violation of computer pornography and child exploitation prevention act 1999. He was arrested at his home on Bogus Road.
Williams said Young may face additional charges depending on forensic testing of devices seized from his home. He remained in the jail without bond as of Friday morning.
Lewis said all substitute teachers with the Hall County School District go through a background check before they begin working with the district.
