An amendment that would have allowed for more than 40 single family homes to be built on an 8-acre tract in Sterling on the Lake was denied by the Flowery Branch City Council Thursday.
The developers, NNP-Looper Lake, LLC, were looking to build on a lot at the corner of Capitola Farm Road and Spout Springs Road. They had previously proposed townhomes on the site, but that proposal was withdrawn after several residents voiced opposition.
Several council members expressed concern Thursday about the homes' yards being visible to either Spout Springs Road or Capitola Farm Road and councilman Christopher Mundy said after the meeting that he felt the council needed more time to review the site plans.
"Getting this information at the beginning of this week, it's one of those situations where we'd probably like to have a longer look at it when you're changing the product," Mundy said.
Councilman Oliver McClellan recused himself from both the vote and public hearing on the issue because of his involvement in the Sterling on the Lake homeowner's association.
