MITRE determines Georgia’s elections are secure

The MITRE Corporation released a report on May 27 confirming the security of Georgia’s election system. MITRE is an accredited laboratory that gives engineering and technical advice to the federal government.

In the report, MITRE determined that limited time and resources would make it impossible for a malicious actor to manipulate voting machines. Any potential attacks would also be detectable.

In a press release from the Secretary of State’s Office, Deputy Secretary of State Gabriel Sterling said he was pleased with MITRE’s results.

“The MITRE report shows what reasonable people already know— if bad actors are given full and unfettered access to any system, they can manipulate that system,” Sterling said. “That is why procedural, operational, and legal election integrity measures are crucial. We are pleased that MITRE recognized that existing procedural safeguards make it extremely unlikely for any bad actor to actually exploit any vulnerabilities. The experts at MITRE recognized these types of claims have been shown to be exaggerated, over the top, and sensationalized.”
