Sawnee EMC shares summer energy saving tips

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

Sawnee EMC shared tips in which its members can stay cool this summer while also conserving energy.

Sawnee EMC's Energy Services experts recommend in a press release members optimize  their thermostat  by setting it to 78 degrees Fahrenheit, and raising it by a few degrees when they're away to reduce cooling costs. They also recommend members use ceiling fans to maintain a comfortable temperature in a room, reminding the public that air conditioning uses the most electricity in homes during the summer.

The company also advised keeping the cool in their homes by sealing any gaps in windows or doors. Additionally, Sawnee EMC suggested members may prevent their homes from getting warmer by grilling outside instead of using a stove.  Members may also conserve energy by unplugging electronics that are not in use, turning off unnecessary lights and changing air filters.

Sawnee EMC members can also view their daily and hourly energy usage via SmartHub at sawnee.coop.

Members can discover how energy efficient their home is, by scheduling a free energy audit with one of Sawnee EMC’s Energy Service Representatives. A representative will come to a member’s home, perform a visual inspection, and recommend ways to improve energy efficiency. To schedule an energy audit, please call Sawnee EMC’s Customer Service Center at 770-887-2363 or email [email protected]
