Steady turnout for primary election in Georgia

By AccessWDUN staff

Habersham County polling locations are seeing a brisk voter turnout.

At Habersham North, located in the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center outside Clarkesville, Polk Manager Steve Lindley said the facility had averaged 100 voters an hour between 7 and 4, and that it appeared that number could be exceeded going forward.

In fact, Lindley said he anticipated having to put someone at the end of the line at 7 so those in line by that time can vote.

Update posted Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.:

In Dahlonega, a steady stream of voters has kept the poll workers busy all day. Despite constant traffic, the line has so far moved steadily and smoothly.

The Lumpkin County Elections Manager, Ashley Peck, said that record early voting numbers across the state do not seem to have affected the numbers of voters turning out on Election Day.

“Yes, we had a good early turnout, but there’s been a really good turnout today, too,” said Peck.

Update posted Tuesday at 10:42 a.m.:

Voters were continuing to slowly trickle in just before 8:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Flowery Branch near the city’s downtown.

Voters quickly moved through the polling process, with no wait as of the last report.

One poll worker was encouraging voters to wear their voting stickers after casting their ballot to increase awareness of election day among friends, family and coworkers.

Polling places in North Georgia opened at 7 a.m. today for important primary elections for the U.S. Senate, governor, lieutenant governor and dozens of statewide and local races.

Only 21 people had voted at the precinct at Lakewood Baptist Church at 8:30 this morning, but poll workers said everything was working smoothly.

Dozens of candidates had placed signs at the entrance to the church parking lot off Thompson Bridge Road.

More than 850,000 Georgians voted early, either in person or via absentee ballot.

This story will be updated throughout the day.
