Missing Jefferson man found dead in a car accident

A missing man in Jackson County has been found deceased.

On Sunday, 25-year-old John Henry Myers from Jefferson was reported missing by his family. He was last seen Saturday night leaving his mother’s residence in Hoschton to head to his sister’s residence off Winder Hwy. Authorities released his photo along with a photo of his car, a Silver Honda Civic, asking for the public’s help to find him.

On Tuesday, around 10:43 a.m., troopers got a call about a vehicle off the roadway, down a steep embankment in a heavily wooded area on State Route 11 near Hamilton Drive. Myers’ Honda Civic was discovered in the creek bottom and Myers was found dead inside the car.

According to a report released from the Georgia State Patrol, it appears the vehicle was traveling east on SR 11 when it left the roadway to the right side and went down the embankment. Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said that the vehicle was not clearly visible from the main road.

The family was notified and took to social media to thank the community. “We would like to express how extremely grateful we are to everyone in this community for all the help and support we have received in helping to locate our beloved baby brother and son.” They request continued prayers for the family.
