Hall County Commission approves self-storage facility for Friendship Road

By Austin Eller News Director

The Hall County Commission on Thursday evening unanimously approved a rezoning request allowing for the construction of a self-storage facility off Friendship Road.

Friendship 24, LLC sought to rezone the 24.23-acre property from agricultural residential to planned commercial development. The proposed facility will be located on the north side of Friendship Road near Deaton Creek Parkway.

It will include about 243,500 square feet of self-storage buildings and about 10 acres of parking for the storage of other boats and vehicles. The facility will take between two to four years to complete.

Commissioner Kathy Cooper added two additional conditions to the rezoning, including a stipulation that box trucks cannot be stored at the site.

The approval came after five nearby residents spoke in opposition to the rezoning during a public hearing on the matter. Those in opposition cited environmental concerns, particularly in relation to water sources present near the lot.

“Construction of this kind will destroy this natural environment,” Carolyn Gentry, a resident of the nearby Reunion subdivision, said. “It will eliminate the opportunity for our neighborhood children to go out there and explore.”

Two people spoke in support of the matter. The county also received an email of support from the Reunion advisory committee.
