A grand jury in Oconee County indicted on Monday the suspect in the 2021 shooting death of RaceTrack worker Elijah Wood.
Akhil Nasir Crumpton, a former University of Georgia football player from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was arrested earlier in March following a year-long investigation into the murder. According to a report from the Athens Banner-Herald, the jury indicted Crumpton on felony murder, aggravated assault, criminal attempt to commit a felony and two counts of possessing a firearm during a felony.
As of Wednesday, Crumpton was being held in a Philadelphia jail. He has opposed extradition to Oconee County.
The report from the Athens Banner-Herald said the Western Circuit District Attorney's Office was working to prepare a governor's warrant to have Crumpton extradited to Oconee County.
Crumpton is accused of shooting and killing Elijah Wood, 23, on March 19, 2021, at a RaceTrac convenience store on 7921 Macon Highway in Watkinsville.
