Gainesville unemployment rate unchanged in February

The unemployment rate in Gainesville did not change last month, according to numbers released Thursday by the Georgia Department of Labor.

The rate remained at 2.4 percent, in comparison to the 3.2 percent rate in February 2021.

“Thanks to the hard work of many Georgians, February saw gains in jobs, labor force, and the number of employed for much of the state,” said Commissioner Mark Butler in a press statement. “As we look towards the spring and summer months, we remain committed to working with employers as they continue to fill open positions with suitable job seekers.”

The labor force increased in Gainesville last month by 171 and ended at 106,670. That number is up 1,937 in comparison to February 2021.

Gainesville ended the month with 104,096 employed residents. That number increased by 161 over the month and is up by 2,664 compared to the same time a year ago.

Gainesville ended February with 96,700 jobs. That number increased by 200 from January to February and increased by 3,100 when compared to the same time last year.

The number of unemployment claims increased by 2 percent in Gainesville in February. When compared to last February, claims were down by about 85 percent.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 1,825 active job postings in Gainesville for February.
