School board approves new Gainesville High School academic building

The Gainesville City School Board approved Gainesville High School’s request for a new 3-story academic building at Monday’s meeting.

This project will cost close to $24 million and will be bond-funded. According to Superintendent Jeremy Williams, this addition will be the school board’s last bond project.

The new building will have 47 classrooms, six science labs, two computer labs, two art rooms and a broadcast video production lab. It will also connect the media center to the cafeteria and include a new administrative suite.

The administrative suite will help visitors navigate the campus. According to Gainesville High School officials, the main office and parking will be located closer to Century Place. The existing main office will be turned into a student service area.
