Two dead after head-on collision in Forsyth County

Two people from Dawsonville were killed after a head-on collision Tuesday morning in Forsyth County.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said in a press release the collision happened at about 8:25 a.m. at the intersection of Bannister Road and Mockingbird Road.

The release said a 2003 Honda Accord was driving southbound on Bannister Road. The Honda then crossed into the northbound lane, striking a 2013 Hyundai Elantra head-on. Authorities said they have not determined what led the Honda to cross into the northbound lane.

The driver of the Honda, Jessica James, 36, of Dawsonville, died at the scene. James' 14-year-old passenger was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The passenger in the Hyundai, Sarah Decoteau, 38, of Dawsonville, was taken by helicopter to a local hospital but died shortly after. The driver of the Hyundai was taken to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the two victims in the accident were not wearing their seatbelts, while the two survivors were wearing theirs.

The crash remained under investigation by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Traffic Specialist Unit at last report.
