Officials with Hall County Fire Rescue said Rolling Rock subdivision off Harmony Church Road was closed to all traffic Friday afternoon due to a gas line fire.

Christie Grice, public information officer with Hall County Fire Rescue, said crews responded to a grass fire in the subdivision around 12:15 p.m. Lightning reportedly struck a tree in the subdivision during a storm. The lightning split the tree in half, rupturing an underground gas line. The gas leak was then ignited by the lightning.

The ignited gas leak was still actively burning as of 2 p.m. Friday. No one was able to enter or exit the subdivision at last report.

Atlanta Gas Light Company and Hall County Fire Rescue were on the scene and the fire was controlled at 2 p.m. The subdivision will remain closed until the gas line has been repaired and the fire has been extinguished.

Grice said traffic from the closure is backed up onto Harmony Church Road. No homes were damaged in the fire.
