White County residential fire leads to one fatality

An afternoon residential fire in White County on Saturday resulted in the death of one person. 

White County 911 Communications got a call at approximately 5:52 p.m. on Saturday, Jan.18 to reports of a residential fire in the area of Tom Bell Road and McGee Drive.

White County Fire Services, Cleveland Fire Department and Helen Fire Department, responded to the scene along with the White County Sheriff's Office.

Initial reports indicated the possibility of an individual entrapped within the home.

Upon arrival, first responders found the home fully involved with flames.

Fire crews initiated a search for the entrapped individual while other units worked to suppress the fire and support search operations.

The entrapped individual was located inside the structure but had succumbed to their injuries.

The next of kin for the deceased individual has been notified.

Fire personnel stayed on-site throughout the evening to extinguish hot spots and prevent reignition.

The White County Coroner's Office responded to the scene to transport the deceased.

The investigation for the cause of the fire is ongoing and all further inquiries should be directed to the Georgia State Fire Marshal's Office.
