Gwinnett County loosens mask restrictions in county businesses

COVID restrictions are loosening across our area as the CDC recently updates its guidelines.

Last week the CDC said that they have instituted a new system that labels areas as “low,” “medium” or “high” risk COVID areas. Based on those ratings, masks are not required in low or medium-risk areas.

As COVID numbers drop, and as the guidelines have changed, some previous restrictions have changed.

Gwinnett County announced that they are no longer requiring masks in buildings that the building owns or leases. The emergency order that was put into place requiring masks in county businesses expired on Friday and was not renewed. According to the CDC’s new system, Gwinnett County is classified as “low” risk.

However, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution says masks are still required on Gwinnett County public transportation.

Restrictions are loosening in Hall County, as well. Since the most recent spike in Covid, the Hall County Sheriff's Office precincts have been closed to the public. However, the Sheriff's Office says they are reopening to the public beginning Tuesday, Mar. 1. The change comes as COVID numbers have been on the decline.

This news comes as many school systems across the state announced last week they are no longer requiring masks to be worn by students. Gwinnett County was one of those school systems.
