DAHLONEGA, Ga. — No. 1 Lumpkin County continued its march through the Class 3A state tournament with a blowout 90-30 win over Tatnall County at Lynn Cottrell Court on Saturday.
The Lady Indians rushed out to a 14-2 lead in the first quarter. It was the beginning of an impressive onslaught, led by Mary Mullinax with 31 points, who hit five three-pointers. The Lady Indians nailed 15 shots from behind the 3-point line.
Lexi Pierce finished with 24 points, including a six-point play. Here's how it happened: Pierce hit a 3-pointer and was fouled. The officials determined the foul was intentional and awarded Pierce three free throws. She hit all three. On the same trip down the floor, because Lumpkin got the ball after the intentional foul, they answered with another 3-pointer for a nine-point possession late in the fourth quarter.
