MT. AIRY — Gainesville swept a doubleheader on Saturday against Habersham Central and Stephens County.
The Red Elephants routed the host Raiders 9-1 in the opening game and then rallied for an 8-7 win over the Indians.
Against Habersham, Gainesville (3-1) scored in every inning but the second. Tanner Allen, Cody Brewer, and Landon Deyton each had two hits to pace a 10-hit attack. Alex Kelly drove in three runs and Deyton knocked in two runs. On the mound, Cooper Reid went six innings scattering four hits and fanning seven to earn the win.
Against Stephens County, Gainesville led 6-2 after the fourth but the Indians scored five times in the fifth and sixth innings to grab a 7-6 lad. The Red Elephants, however, plated two runs in the top of the seventh and Anthony Lugo pitched a scoreless seventh striking out three to get the save.
Will Barrett had two hits and two RBI to lead the offense.
