ELLIJAY, Ga. — Ryan Fowler scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns to spark one of the biggest comebacks in White County history Friday night.
The Warriors rallied from 22-points down to stun Gilmer, 38-35, knocking the Bobcats out of the playoffs.
Gilmer (5-5, 2-4 Region 7-3A) jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter before Fowler scored the first of his 5 rushing touchdowns on the night to cut it to 14-7 for the Warriors (4-6, 2-4 Region 7-3A).
But the Bobcats eventually led 35-13 at halftime after scoring four times over the final seven minutes.
It stayed that way until the fourth quarter when the White County exploded.
Ryan scored on a 7-yard run to trim the lead to 35-19, and it looked like that would be the end of the road for the 2022 season. But Fowler and the offense had other plans.
The junior scored on a 53-yard run with 3:38 left, and the Warriors rolled the dice on an onside kick and recovered. Tripp Nix followed with a quick 33-yard touchdown pass to Kane Lowery to cut the lead to 35-32 with 3:04 left.
After stopping the Bobcats on their next possession, White County got the ball one last time, and Fowler scored from 2-yards to complete the improbable comeback win.
