A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday, Oct. 28, in Forsyth County for the new Fire Station 9 located in the Lake Lanier area at 8420 McBride Lane.
“We are excited to begin work on this much-anticipated project. Quality of life is one of the most important things we can offer our citizens, and that begins with a strong public safety force,” Forsyth County Fire Chief Barry Head said in a press release.
Fire Station 9 will be a 12,500-square-foot, four-bay station to accommodate the personnel and equipment that will operate out of the facility and allow for future growth. The new station’s design is based on a standard template for the County fire stations that have been improved over the years with Fire Station 11 being the primary model.
The station is expected to open in the spring of 2024 according to a press release from Forsyth County.
Construction of the new Station 9 is funded by the voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) VI and VIII programs as well as Impact Fees. The construction cost of the project is estimated to be $6.7 million.
“I want to thank the community. I am grateful to all who offered their input and support as we planned this new station. Also thank you to the Forsyth County voters who supported this initiative through their approval of the SPLOST 6 and 8 sales tax programs,” District 5 Commissioner Laura Semanson said in a press release.
The general contractor for the station is Kevin Price Construction. The architect for the project is Croft and Associates.
The Fire Department will also break ground in 2022 on a new Fire Station 15 replacement.
