Distracted driving leads to major drug bust in Cornelia

A driver looking at his cell phone led to two arrests and the seizure of a large quantity of drugs late Sunday in Cornelia.

Cornelia Police Chief Jonathan Roberts said officers pulled over a truck that was maneuvering erratically on Ga. 385 near RaceTrac.

During the traffic stop, a large amount of suspected illegal drugs was discovered inside the truck, including:

  • Seven pounds of raw marijuana
  • 2.5 pounds of THC wax
  • 1.5 pounds of mushrooms
  • 300 grams of Kief (defined as incredibly potent cannabis)
  • 128 pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes
  • 34 packages of edible marijuana gummies

Officers also found $3,915 cash in the truck.

Donald Pickett, 53, of Atlanta, was charged with driving under the influence, distracted driving, and possession with intent to distribute.

A passenger in the truck, 48-year-old Constance Herbs of New York, was charged with possession with intent to distribute.

Police are working to develop a street value for the drugs.
