Duluth man killed, nine others injured in Clermont wreck

A Duluth man was killed and nine others were injured after a two-vehicle wreck Saturday evening in Clermont.

Derreck Booth, public information officer with the Hall County Sheriff's Office, said deputies responded to the crash at about 11:30 p.m. on U.S. 129 at Hulsey Road.

The crash involved a Honda Odyssey minivan and a Honda Civic car. A preliminary investigation by the HCSO Accident Investigation Unit found the Civic was passing vehicles while driving southbound on Cleveland Highway when it struck the Odyssey, which was driving northbound.

The driver of the Civic, 33, of Duluth, died at the scene. The occupants of the minivan, five adults and four children, all of Gainesville, were transported to hospitals by Hall County Fire Rescue ambulances and an Air Life helicopter.

Investigators were working to identify next of kin for the Duluth man as of Monday morning.

The wreck remained under investigation as of the last report.
