Wrestling: Buford defends 6A Duals title; Jefferson falls in 4A final; Commerce 3rd in Class A

BRUNSWICK — Buford defended its Class 6A Duals title on Saturday, holding off Valdosta 48-23 in the finals at Brunswick High School.

The Wolves had advanced to the finals with a 66-15 rout of Lassiter and then a 72-6 rout of Creekview in the semifinals..

It's the fifth overall title for Buford since 2015.

Meanwhile,, defending Class 4A state champion Jefferson lost its bid for a second consecutive Duals state title on Saturday.

The Dragons lost to West Laurens on criteria after the two teams finished its final at LaGrange High School tied at 36.

The Dragons opened the tournament with a 55-30 win over Bainbridge in the first round. They advanced to the championship match with a 51-22 win over Heritage-Catoosa.

In Class A, Commerce finished third after beating Mount Pisgah 45-35 in the consolation finals  at Commerce High School. The Tigers moved into the semifinals with a 67-0 win over Landmark Christian but then fell fell to top-seed Social Circle, 47-27.

In Class 5A, Jackson County lost to Ola 58-15 in the opening round. The Panthers avoided the sweep with a 56-18 win over Coffee. But they were knocked out in the consolation bracket with a loss to Woodward Academy at McDonough High School.
