Average gasoline prices saw a slight increase locally and across the state of Georgia over the last week.

According to the latest report from AAA, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas in Georgia was $3.11 on Monday, a two-cent increase from the $3.09 average of the week before.

Those numbers were similar in the Gainesville area. While the prices were slightly below the state average, they still rose from an average of $3.07 to $3.09.

Georgia prices are still about 20 cents lower than the national average price, which was $3.30 per gallon as of Monday morning.

AAA Spokeswoman Montrae Waiters said there is no clear indication of which direction prices will move next.

"Due to the lingering uncertainty of the economic impact of the COVID-19 omicron variant, no one can say with confidence where gas prices will go next," Waiters said. "AAA recommends Georgians look for ways to save money at the pump."

While prices are up over the last week, they are still down compared to a month ago. The average price in Georgia in early December was $3.15.

However, prices are still far higher than they were in January of 2021, when the average price per gallon in the state was just $2.16.
