Suspect arrested in deadly Lawrenceville shooting

Gwinnett County authorities have arrested a Lawrenceville man accused of shooting and killing a Lawrenceville woman Monday morning.

According to a press release from the Gwinnett County Police Department, Ray Charles Evans, 31, was arrested by the police department with help from the Forsyth County SWAT Team.

The victim in the incident has been identified as Shakiyla Sample, 29. 

Evans is charged with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault and Possession of Firearm during the commission of a felony.

Original story posted Sept. 20 at 7:49 a.m.:

A woman was found shot to death early Monday morning at a residence in Lawrenceville, and Gwinnett County Police Department detectives are treating the case as a homicide. 

Officers with GCPD's East Precinct were called to the scene on Prospect Church Road just after 4:30 am.

When officers arrived, they found a woman inside the home dead from a gunshot wound. At this point, detectives are investigating the motive for the shooting, and the Crime Scene Unit is processing the scene.  

Detectives have not yet released the name of the victim.
