Body found in Lake Lanier Tuesday afternoon

Authorities are working to identify the body of a white man found floating in Lake Lanier Tuesday afternoon in West Hall County. 

According to a press release from the Hall County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call at about 5:15 p.m. from a person on a personal watercraft who spotted the body about 100 yards from the shore of Old Federal Campground. 

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Hall County Fire Services and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also responded to the call.

The DNR and the sheriff's office Marine Unit recovered the body, while investigators responded to the shore. 

The body of the man is believed to have been in the water for about a week. The body was sent to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy.
