The North Georgia Community Foundation awarded $426,500 in scholarships this year to local students pursuing a post-secondary education this fall.

This amount was awarded through 217 scholarships from the foundation's Scholarship Funds, according to a press release.

This year's overall amount awarded is in comparison to the previous year's $385,000.

"We are honored to work with people who desire to support our next generation, and we appreciate the opportunity to create and administer Scholarship Funds that fulfill this passion," said Megan Martin, vice president of Marketing and Development at NGCF. "Each NGCF Scholarship Fund is tailored to our fundholders specifications and provide awards to assist deserving students in continuing their education."

The foundation currently oversees 65 scholarship funds. Each fund has specific eligibility requirements such as a student's field of study, academic achievements, extracurricular activities and financial need.

Scholarships are available each year to high school seniors, current college students and non-traditional students.

Anyone in the community interested in establishing a scholarship fund can contact Martin at [email protected] or 770-535-7880.
